The Advertising Review

Published November 2, 2022

The three-minute thriller keeps viewers on the edge of their seats and tells the story of a police department investigating a weird “mind-blowing” phenomenon. Mixing up comedy and drama, the new ad by Karma is full of suspense while injecting subtle hints of promoted content. For example, in one scene, the leading detective “the best prices I’ve seen in my career” as he pieces together the evidence.

In partnership with Mamash Production Group, Karma filmed the commercial in Georgia (Europe) and spent six months between writing the script and the final cut. Targeting Gen Z and Millennials, the company says its app and browser extension are “changing the way people shop online and giving consumers so many smart features that help them save major cash. It’s just online shopping – but better.”

To take the drama mini-movie-like campaign to the next level, the company partnered with 40+ social media influencers and content creators. These creators shared their live reactions to Karma’s commercial as if it is another episode of a popular Netflix series (watch Trixie and Katya’s reaction to the commercial).

The commercial highlights how Karma makes online shopping smoother and easier by automatically applying coupon codes at checkout. The company now added a smart checkout feature that enables users to save their payment information on Karma and then check out from any online store without having to provide their details again and again. Just in time for the holiday season, the commercial spotlights how shoppers can ‘pay with Karma’ to get the items they want at the lowest price available.
